LAST DAYS, PART 5: THE JOY OF SEQUESTERING AND BEING CREATIVE!

Sketching! 

 What a delight this has been... whiling away the long hours of lock down, busily being creative with a medium I hadn't touched in many decades. 

 This is definitely one VERY positive side effect of being sequestered for so many weeks! (As you will see, I have two favorite subjects: animals and colorful scenery--the places I would love to be right about now!)

    Love these drawings, Sheri! Hope you continue sketching throughout the rest of your travel adventures; you're really onto something here. As beautiful as photographs can be, there's something about artwork made during a trip that just brings back so many different and deeper kinds of memories. Glad you found something both creative and fun to do. (P.S. The puppy is such a cutie I think he should become your brand logo!!)

Wow. I am actually here. The fuzz-brained feeling of jet lag has finally worn off and my senses are reeling from overload. I think of this city as the Indian version of New York; the incessant noise, throngs of people, traffic beyond belief. I can never get over the casualness with which pedestrians invite a seemingly certain death by strolling through endless gridlock, within inches of bumpers, heedless of honking horns or barreling buses. It is quite the show. People have wondered at my traveling alone. "Aren't you scared?" they have queried. The western concept of the subcontinent is one of roving bandits and thieves, and that lone, white women are easy prey. After several days here, I glean that not only is this a ridiculous notion, fear of other people is the furthest concern from my mind. Adoring those animals!!!

Cows, dogs, monkeys, pigs, goats...these creatures, even if owned, roam freely. Granted, their diets are not to be believed, but they must have adapted in order to be able to exist on unimaginable--what we would consider--non-food items. The most resilient of all seems to be the cows, who almost always appear to be fat and happy. Not as much so for dogs, and as for the monkeys, who can tell? Those little rascals certainly seem to have amazing energy. In any event, these are just a few of my photos, but are my favorites, either because I have grown fond of this particular neighbor, and/or because it was one of the most entertaining. Enjoy! How could you NOT but love this face!??! A well-fed bovine, he is enjoying the macaroni breakfast I gave to him! LAST POST: THE RETURN "HOME" TO THE U.S.A.!

 The deck is now full: a whopping total of fifty-two blog posts! This final one, then, completes my journey as an "Expat in India"...well, at least, for now. Will I be back there? You betcha! Wild horses--or wild dogs and cows, as is more apt in this case--couldn't keep me away. As soon as they lift the suspension on visas for tourists, you better believe I will be heading back to India! And starting a whole new blog about it when I do. * * * * * * * * THE RETURN Since this post is the grand finale, detailing my departure from India, it is a rather lengthy one. Besides which, it really does require some elaborate explanations to do the story of my return trip justice: traveling in this era of Covid is SO surreal, how could it be otherwise?  I only hope you may find it as interesting as I did!
